Bozzuto, Chevy Chase Land Company Announce First Retail Tenants at Chevy Chase Lake

CHEVY CHASE, MD — March 21, 2022 — Bozzuto and The Chevy Chase Land Company today announced that six restaurants and retailers will be joining the Chevy Chase Lake neighborhood by the end of 2023: The Charmery, CVS, Elena James, Playa Bowls, Truist Bank and UnCorked.

Additionally, a to-be-announced grocer will anchor the site upon opening in fall 2022. As the neighborhood prepares to welcome its first residents to The Barrett apartments and The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Chevy Chase, these restaurants and retailers will provide both everyday conveniences and unique experiences.

“We are pleased to announce the addition of several new retail offerings to Chevy Chase Lake as we continue to bring exciting and unique concepts to the neighborhood for residents and guests to enjoy,” said Toby Bozzuto, President and CEO of Bozzuto. “With the upcoming opening of The Barrett and The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Chevy Chase, we look forward to bringing to life our collective vision for this vibrant new community gathering space.”

In addition to the to-be-announced grocer, the following retailers will be joining the development by the end of 2023:

The Charmery: The Charmery is a Baltimore-based ice cream shop with six locations in Baltimore, Towson, Columbia and now Chevy Chase, Maryland. The Charmery offers the best possible ingredients, supporting local farmers and producers whenever possible and featuring ever-changing seasonal ice cream flavors, specialty sundaes, hand-spun milkshakes and floats. The 1,306-square-foot location aims to open this summer.

“We are so excited to bring our love of creating ice cream to Chevy Chase. Every new location is the perfect opportunity to share our happiness-through-ice cream vibe,” said David Alima, owner of The Charmery.

CVS: CVS Pharmacy is America’s leading retail pharmacy, committed to delivering innovative health solutions that create a simpler, more accessible experience for patients, customers and caregivers. Their 10,256-square-foot location at Chevy Chase Lake will open in early summer 2023.

Elena James: From the founders of DC’s beloved New American restaurant Nina May, Colin McClimans and Danilo Simic, Elena James will be a new, all-day concept serving dishes with seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The 5,000-square-foot space is aiming to open in spring 2023.

“It has always been a dream of mine to open a restaurant in the neighborhood I was born and raised in,” said Chef/Owner Colin McClimans, chef and co-owner of Nina May and Elena James. “In every community, restaurants are vital gathering places for neighbors to come together and break bread. We hope to redefine what a neighborhood restaurant can be and are excited to support this community as it continues to develop and grow.”

Playa Bowls: Founded by surfers Abby Taylor & Rob Giuliani, Playa Bowls was born out of the desire to recreate the delicious, refreshing, healthy versions of acai and pitaya bowls the pair encountered on various surf trips to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, California, and Hawaii. Their Chevy Chase Lake location will cover 1,748 square feet and begin serving up delicious bowls to customers in fall 2022.

Truist: Truist Financial Corporation is a purpose-driven financial services company offering a wide range of services including retail, small business and commercial banking, asset management, mortgage, wealth management and more. Its Chevy Chase Lake location will cover 3,943 square feet.

UnCorked: This fall, UnCorked will be expanding to Chevy Chase Lake from their first location in Towson. In addition to a wide selection of wine and craft beer, UnCorked will feature a full bar on-site as well as to-go food options such as salads, sandwiches and charcuterie boards. UnCorked also offers delivery services to the residences on-site at Chevy Chase Lake and the neighboring community. Their 3,011-square-foot location plans to open early this fall.

“The combination of sit-down and casual dining options, as well as everyday conveniences, are one of the many reasons why Chevy Chase Lake’s residences are dynamic and desirable places to live,” said John Ziegenhein, President and CEO of The Chevy Chase Land Company. “As we begin to welcome our first residents to the neighborhood this year, we know that the services and products offered at these retailers as well as our grocer will serve as helpful resources as they make themselves at home.”

The Charmery, Playa Bowls and UnCorked join Chevy Chase Lake as a part of Phase One of the neighborhood’s development, which also includes two residential buildings, The Barrett and The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Chevy Chase, delivering later this spring. Chevy Chase Lake’s second phase is expected to deliver in 2023 and will include a third residential building, The Claude, a plaza connecting Chevy Chase Lake to the future Purple Line, and restaurants and retailers including Elena James, CVS and more.
